GNS won the newly-created Vostochny Makarovskoye licence at a government auction held in 2006. 

The Vostochny-Makarovskoye Licence Area is located close to the border of the Volgograd and Saratov regions.  The Korobkovsky-Zhirnovsk gas pipeline is located 9 kilometres to the north of the Vostochny-Makarovskoye License Area.  The Korobkovsky-Zhirnovsky pipeline runs north towards Zhirnovsk and terminates at the Korobkovsky Gas Processing Plant in the city of Zhirnovsk. 

The Vostochny-Makarovskoye field was discovered in 1989 by a LUKoil Group entity with three wells drilled on it.

Two more wells were drilled by Volga Gas in 2008 and another well is being drilled.

GNS has an agreement to access UGSS via a common connection with the Dobrinskoye field which is contiguous to Vostochny Makarovskoye.  The licence area is 5 kilometres from the Korobkovsky-Zhirnovsk gas pipeline.
